Drought and Family History
Droughts were a major element of Mother Nature’s arsenal that more than occasionally impacted people. Throughout their existence, humans have been understandably preoccupied by the need to obtain food. The shift to agrarian pursuits from a nomadic lifestyle had the consequence of tying people to the land and their becoming dependent on the success of harvests – a very important part of human history.
This presentation will focus on times of dearth due to major droughts that impacted people and communities, with an emphasis on the last millennium. The major components of drought will also be reviewed along with their relationships to weather and climate.
